| North South Gas Pipeline Due to our
strong performance and civil engineering experience
we were selected as the principal sub-contractor to
work on the Newry to Ballyclare section of the gas
pipeline. Construction of the £200 million 156 km
BGE pipeline started in March 2006 and was completed
in October 2006. The pipeline runs from Gormanstown
in Co. Meath to Ballyclare in Co. Antrim where it
links in with the North-West pipeline which runs
from Carrickfergus to Coolkeeragh power station.
We were involved in the hedge removal, stripping of
topsoil, making of haul roads, digging and
backfilling of trenches and reinstatement of some 77
km of the pipeline running west of Newry. This
enabled the construction of gas networks to five
towns – Antrim, Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon and
Newry.
We started the pipeline at Jerrettspass at the end
of March and we managed to finish the construction
on time despite the month of May being the wettest
on record. In order to ensure that we met the
challenging deadline we needed a fleet of 60 to 70
machines along the length of the 77 km section |
